Cali, October, 25, 2011- The seventh edition of the FNC’s Departmental Quality Competition “Valle Cafetero 2011” will reward coffee growers who employ sustainable practices during the harvesting, production, and beneficio (post harvest) processes. By encouraging Valle del Cauca coffee growers to base their production on current sustainability standards, the competition will allow them to compete in the international market by fomenting the production of high quality differentiated coffee.
Until November 15 participants will be able to take their samples to Coffee Grower Cooperatives where they will sell their coffee at published prices. Samples will be evaluated based on a physical examination which will take into account: Humidity, Milling Yield factor, % of healthy beans, % of coffee berry borer, % of hand selected defective beans, % of other defects, and aspect of the parchment coffee bean. The cooperative will overpay the top 3 coffee lots that are within the 15 finalists and have a minimum score of 80/100 points.
