Of the 500 thousand Colombian coffee growing families, 95% are conformed of by rural families that have less than 5 hectares of coffee plantations. This fragmentation of land ownership and the characteristics of the subsistence economy, level of satisfaction of basic needs and the low educational level present within the Latin-American agricultural community, make them vulnerable to changes within their environment. The only way to face these vulnerabilities and to obtain benefits for the entire community is by unifying under a strong Federation with robust institutions.
