Alliance between the SENA and the FNC´s Committee of Quindio will benefit 2000 coffee producers

Armenia, March, 30, 2012. The strategic alliance established between the FNC´s Coffee Growers Committee of Quindío and the SENA (Apprenticeship National Service) will train nearly 2000 coffee producers, collectors, “patieros,” and administrators in Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Business Management processes.

Considering the current global consumer demands regarding differentiated coffees, the bilateral agreement worth US$ 79 thousand will provide on-campus and online scenarios in order to expand the market of Quindio´s coffee growers.
According to Nestor Jiménez, SENA´s local Deputy Director, the initiative´s main objective is to improve the competitiveness of the region´s industries and consolidate a sustainable coffee industry by transferring technology and implementing GAP. Additionally, the agreement aims to improve coffee quality, productivity, skilled labor, and generational knowledge.

Guillermo Zuluaga, Executive Director of Quindío´s Coffee Growers Committee, highlighted the importance of being part of this national model program which delivers formal education to all of Quindío´s coffee growers and their families.
More than 200 coffee producers attended the official launching of the program in the municipality of Pijao.
