Coffee growing women from the Norte de Santander will be part of the “Mujer Rural” program

The program will benefit 148 women in Norte de Santander and 683 in Colombia

February, 7, 2012.“Mujer Rural” or “Rural Woman” is an initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Colombian Institute of Rural Development (INCODER) that will benefit 148 women of Norte de Santander and 683 women of Colombia. With the support of the International Organization for Migration (OIM) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the program seeks to support women´s businesses and productive enterprises, strengthen their organizations and associations, and promote their participation in decision-making environments.

A total of 41 proposals from organizations of different regions of the country were presented to “Mujer Rural.” After being evaluated, the FNC´s Departmental Coffee Growers Committee of Norte de Santander´s submission was ranked among the six chosen proposals to develop the initiative. Agricultural and livestock activities such as raising chickens and pigs, and growing hot peppers, cocoa and coffee are some of the projects to be developed in upcoming weeks by the chosen organizations.
