Colombia´s Labor Vice-minister will support the implementation of 8000 jobs in Magdalena´s coffee se

The Departmental Coffee Growers Committee of Magdalena presented the Cooperative Labor in Magdalena´s Coffee Companies program to David Luna, Colombia´s Labor Vice-minister, during his visit to the city of Santa Marta. The initiative -an alliance between the Coffee Growers Committee of Magdalena, Magdalena´s local government, and the International Labor Organization (ILO)- intends to generate employment in the department´s coffee area by addressing the lack of labor in the harvesting period.

ILO´s Regional Director for Andean countries, Carmen Moreno, ILO´s representative for the department of Magdalena, Beatriz Osorio, and Magdalena´s Governor Luis M. Cotes were some of the people who attended the event.
Since the majority of the nearly 8000 workers that are required for this harvest season are from other departments, the Cooperative Labor in Magdalena´s Coffee Companies program intends to benefit Magdalena´s population with these job alternatives.
This initiative is meant to be implemented in other sectors which have high job demands such as tourism, construction, and port activities.
