University of Pennsylvania recognizes the FNC and the Colombian coffee industry

Knowledge@Wharton –the online business journal of the University of Pennsylvania´s Wharton School– published an article regarding the Colombian coffee industry and the associative model of the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation (FNC).

According to the publication, “the FNC is the largest nonprofit rural organization in the world. Ever since its foundation in 1927, the institution has represented and defended the interests of Colombian growers. The FNC sets the annual budget and designs and implements multiple social programs directly requested by coffee producing families.”

Additionally, the article points out that 95% of Colombia´s growers are smallholders and that coffee growing in the country is essentially a family activity. Similarly, it highlights the FNC´s efforts to generate value added to coffee growers while implementing marketing strategies that differentiate Colombian coffee for its remarkable quality.

Knowledge@Wharton´s publication also provides detailed information concerning many of the environmentally friendly programs led by the FNC´s Extension Service and Cenicafé which generate sustainable social wellbeing among Colombian coffee growers.

The FNC is honored to be recognized by this worldwide prestigious institution.
