VirtualCoffeeClassroom for Coffee Growers: training andconnecting Quinidío´s growers with technology

Armenia. The Virtual Coffee Classroom for Coffee Growers, an initiative launched in 2010 thanks to an agreement signed between the Departmental Coffee Growers Committee of Quindío and the “Fundación Suramericana,” concluded with the recognition of nearly 40 participant coffee growers for their commitment and academic excellence. The project, an educational model for adults, seeks to connect growers with technology and provide training in record management.

On February of the current year the project was implemented in the municipalities of Circasia, Salento, Filandia and Quimbaya where coffee growers had the opportunity to learn about basic computing, the FNC´s products and services, and coffee enterprise management.
Gabriel J. Gómez, Armenia SURA´s Manager of the “Sucursal Mixta”, highlighted the performance of Quindío´s participant growers. He supported the strategic alliance established with the Coffee Growers Committee of Quindío, and ratified the need to implement the program in the entire department in order to benefit a greater amount of coffee growers.
According to Jairo Celis, coffee producer from the municipality of Filandia, “the experience was unique. The teaching strategy was excellent and provided us the tools we need to build our coffee farm enterprises. The next step is to multiply our knowledge so that others can take advantage of these opportunities.”
