RESUMEN
En el presente trabajo se discute sobre la competitividad del sector cafetalero mexicano, el cual ha sido
fuertemente afectado desde la liberalización de los mercados y en los últimos años, por plagas que
han reducido fuertemente su importancia mundial. Así, desde el enfoque de la competitividad sistémica
se realiza un análisis en diferentes escalas que permite comprender las debilidades y problemas que
tiene el sector cafetalero del país. El ejercicio identificó que tanto a escala meta hay conflictos de gran
profundidad entre la sociedad nacional, que se permea al conjunto de actores del país y del sector. El
análisis sugiere que las transformaciones requeridas no son exclusivamente del sector cafetalero sino
de la sociedad en su conjunto.
ABSTRACT
This paper discusses the competitiveness of the Mexican coffee sector, which has been strongly affected
since the liberalization of markets and in recent years, by pests that have greatly reduced its global im-
portance. Thus, from the systemic competitiveness approach, an analysis is carried out at different scales
to understand the weaknesses and problems that the country has at the coffee sector. The exercise identi-
fied that both at the target scale there are deep conflicts between the national society, which permeates
the set of actors in the country and the sector. The analysis suggests that the transformations required are
not exclusively of the coffee sector but of society as a whole.
